How to play

Each golfer receives a stroke allotment of course par plus handicap: full handicap (72 + 21 = 93 for a 21-handicap) or three-quarters (72 + 12 = 84 for a 16-handicap). Play until the strokes are gone, then plant a flag or tombstone (a marker with your name) where your final ball lies. Most players run out before finishing 18.

Scoring

The flag furthest around the course wins; ties on the same green or fairway go to closest to the hole. Players with strokes left after 18 either stop and compare leftovers or continue back to the 1st hole.

Variations

  • Full vs two-thirds vs three-quarter handicap allotments
  • Team flags with combined strokes
  • Pot for the winner
  • Partial (2/3) handicaps
  • Side bets on furthest drive or most pars before running out
  • Nine-hole version with par + half handicap

Tips

  • Play conservatively; every wasted stroke shortens your run
  • Know your remaining strokes before each hole
  • Strong handicap data is essential
  • Play conservatively early; a lost ball burns strokes fast
  • Great for large outings because everyone finishes at a different spot

A visible finish line with flags dotted around the closing holes.
