Also called Greeny, Closest to the Pin, KP, Green in Regulation bet
Hit the green in regulation (usually closest on a par 3) and keep it with a two-putt.
Most common version: on par 3s, the player whose tee shot finishes on the green closest to the hole wins the greenie, provided they make par (two-putt or better). Broader version: any GIR on any hole earns a dot, or only the closest GIR on each hole.
1 dot or an agreed amount from each opponent; a birdie sometimes doubles it (to 2 points). Many groups carry the greenie over if nobody hits the green. Some groups award it regardless of score; most require par.
Par 3s become the most exciting holes of the day.
