How to play

Announce a sandie when you are in a bunker and then make par (some groups: par or better, others: up-and-down in two from a greenside bunker regardless of score). Decide beforehand whether any bunker counts or only greenside bunkers.

Scoring

1 dot or unit from each opponent. Common variants: Super Sandie (par from a fairway bunker) 2 points; Exotic Sandie (fairway and greenside bunker) 4 points; double/triple sandies for two or three bunkers on one hole. A 'progressive sandie' grows by 1 each time the group misses a sand-save chance.

Variations

  • Greenside-only vs any bunker
  • Up-and-down definition (pro stat) vs par definition
  • Net sandies for high handicappers
  • Moles / Anti-Sandies (penalty for failing to escape)

Tips

  • Say 'sandie' out loud when your ball goes in, so everyone watches
  • Chip-in from a bunker also earns a Golden Ferret/chippie in many groups

Turns a bad break into a chance for a cheer and a dollar.
